Leading from Behind
What is the leadership philosophy I live by each and every day? If I could define leadership, it would not only include motivating an individual or group to a common goal, but also to create a space where each individual feels supported, included, and appreciated. When I am in a leadership position, my goal is not to stand in the spotlight, but to give everyone else the opportunity to lead by example. I do not want to stand in a position where I am only instructing a group to complete a task or goal, but rather, I commit to engage in tasks with them. Everyone has something special to share with the world, and I hope to help others notice that we have immense worth, as well as the person sitting next to us, and people all across the globe. Freshman year of college, my leadership professor said to us: “The best part about watching each and every one of you evolve as leaders for others over the years is seeing how your us of “I’s” turn into “We’s.” It’s important to live by and spread this message everyday.
